Just install and activate VMware Workstation 7 *you can download it from the VMware website) if you don't already have it, then download these files.

Xelabo's VMware image is still slow on VMware 7 (PROTIP: Never give it more than 1 processor, lest you run the risk of a kernel panic at boot.), to add to that, it still runs at 1024x768x32. I can't give an answer much more technical than that because to be honest I'm not entirely sure of the specifics behind it all, but I think it's a problem for numerous guest OSs, it's just more apparent in OSX. That's not officially supported, but it does the job well enough to not feel like you're running it in QEMU on a 486, so if you have no other option then it'll do the trick, it even throws out OSX-specific error messages when things go wrong. Saying that, VMWare's latest round of versions are capable of throwing OSX around pretty swiftly, it's an officially supported guest OS, and as a side effect of Fusion's guest OS support (with a little vmx editing) VMWare Workstation 7 and VMWare Player 3 works reasonably well too. Since OSX is quite graphically heavy, I'm sure that certainly doesn't help. It seems to be the case that any semi-modern OS has performance issues in VMWare unless VMWare Tools are installed, most likely because without them, the OS is trying to work without appropriate drivers.
